Title: Pushing the Envelope: Increasing Sustainability in Building Construction through Waste Diversion, Recycled Products, and Energy Efficient Exteriors

Sustainability in roofing and exteriors has been improving since first being discussed in the mid-1990s. The market shift toward adopting sustainable building practices has arguably moved at a more rapid pace in recent years, as evidenced by the number of jurisdictions promoting or requiring sustainable building design and construction. This session will examine how sustainability and energy efficiency play significant roles in adding value to your customers’ properties, especially when considering materials of construction and installation practices. The session speakers will cover the basics of energy efficient roofing and siding and the current impact the 2021 IECC adoption will have on the exterior envelope, waste reduction through recycling of PVC roof membranes and polymeric claddings, like vinyl and insulated siding, and the use of innovative building products made from recycled content. The session will also include an overview of energy codes and building standards that require or incentivize sustainability and green building design, and will also feature speakers who are walking the talk by putting these strategies into practice. The session will also include an overview of national initiatives to divert vinyl products from landfill and how contractors can play an active role in the process. The program will explore waste reduction techniques and how building these practices into business models can give competitive advantages as sustainability becomes more mainstream.
